I just watched a video about a boy who had committed suicide. He didn’t know he was loved; in fact he pretty much believed that no one on this planet wanted him alive. It became quite clear after he passed away just how loved he actually was. People from different parts of his life were stepping forward to honor him. What if he had known how loved he was? Would he still be alive today?
It seems strange for me to bring up suicide… I never speak about it, and I don’t know anyone personally who has died by it, but this video I watched inspired the thought about love and how important and impactful it is in our lives. How many lives would be saved if it were more open? Does it make a difference?
I feel like there are plenty of times in our lives where love needs to be shared – times when we feel alone or that no one understands what we’re going through. We are all going through life and need to be there to support one another. I also believe that there are times when we need to actually seek it out. In this day and age, we seem to be busier than ever! Sometimes simply being there for one another, whether that be through quality time, or taking the time to serve one another… however we prefer to show love to each other, can become an afterthought. There are times when we need to call up a friend and set a date to share our hearts (and love) with one another.
Community is so important – love is able to circulate freely within it. But what happens when we aren’t in a loving community? Where do we turn when times are tough and we need that reminder that we are loved? I believe that one way is to seek the truth of who we are in Christ.
For you’ve been a safe place for me, a good place to hide. Strong God, I’m watching you do it, I can always count on you – God, my dependable love.
Psalm 59:17 (Message Translation)
When we feel like we’re alone – we’re not. God is always with us; as cheesy as it sounds… it is true! I remember feeling alone in the weeks after our daughter Briela passed away. I was having these thoughts that nobody seemed interested in speaking with me about – but God was. I was able to communicate with Him what was on my heart, and that made me feel especially loved! I know it may seem incomparable to say that I have God to speak with rather than a person, but God truly is the living God; He wants and desires to have a relationship with us that includes showing us how much He loves us! Once we realize our worth in His eyes, life has so much more value! Anything seems possible because we have the Almighty God by our side! There really is nothing better than receiving His love.
There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear.
1 John 4:18 (Message Translation)
There may be times when it doesn’t seem or feel like there’s love in our lives, but we really are surrounded by it! Whether we know it or not, we leave an impact on the world around us and people are affected by us and what we personally carry.
Whether we feel it or not, we matter! And most importantly… we are loved!
Ps. I’d recommend declaring over yourself out loud “I am loved” over and over again. The more you hear it, the more you believe it 😉
